Working on a browser game that keeps player saves in local storage, I ran into exactly the kind of eviction this problem describes. Chrome can silently drop storage when the site is not used often, and a player who returns after weeks can find an empty save slot - which feels like data corruption even though the browser is just doing its job.
Two habits made a big difference for us:

Treat storage as a cache, not a database. Prompt players to export a backup file from time to time, so an eviction is annoying instead of tragic.

Surface storage errors. Writes can fail silently inside quota errors, so wrap every save in a try/catch and show a small toast when something does not persist.

If you are implementing the LRU logic here, keep in mind the real-world version: browsers do not promise to follow your eviction order, so the graceful-degradation path matters more than the algorithm itself.
If you want to see the failure modes in action, our project is a small browser-based life simulator that relies on local saves: https://projectmoonlife.com/ - open it, play a few choices, and try the downloadable backup feature. It is a fun way to stress-test how you handle persistence.

Chrome uses LRU algorithm to evict data when it has to. Watch this Youtube video for detail explanation, starting from 6:25 to 7:38. Now you are asked…
